Episode 4 YouTube tips

Show Notes: Start out the episode talking about my initial ponderings on what to call the show, before I decided on WalkTalkTech.

Although YouTube is probably the best know video hosting site, I’ve noticed that when people are embedding videos onto other sites (blog posts, etc.) that they are tending to leave the default settings. This leads to “related videos” being displayed when your video has finished playing. These videos might not actually meet your expectations of related videos. Perhaps people don’t generally know how to alter the settings.

Click on the cog icon at the end of the embed window to access the “Customise” options. Uncheck the “Include related videos” option. (I’ve checked the “Play in HD” option.) Choose your border colours if you want a border and click “Show border”, and then choose the size you want the video displayed. Select the Embed code and use that in your site.

Deep Link Start Time Marker

Instead of making your viewers watch an entire video you link to in YouTube, you might want to link to a specific point to start watching. This is possible by putting a time marker on the end of video link URL. This is called a deep link and takes the format #t=1m15s

Example: If I want to take you to a specific point in Episode 3 I can use the link:
